Australian Federal Police officers have raided the Melbourne home of a former senior CFMEU official as part of an investigation into alleged corruption within Victoria’s construction industry.

At least six AFP officers, accompanied by a sniffer dog, arrived at the Keilor home of former union official John Perkovic early on Wednesday morning.

Officers were seen searching areas around the property, including items in the backyard and underneath a black Range Rover parked in the driveway.

Mr Perkovic was seen leaving the property a short time later.

The operation comes as authorities continue investigating allegations of corruption and wrongdoing within Victoria’s building industry, an AFP spokesperson told The Nightly.

Mr Perkovic spent more than a decade as an organiser with the Victorian branch of the Construction, Forestry and Maritime Employees Union while it was headed by controversial former state secretary John Setka.

He later rose through the union’s ranks and was promoted to the second-highest position in the Victorian branch after the CFMEU was placed into administration in 2024.

The move into administration followed serious allegations of widespread misconduct and wrongdoing within the construction arm of the union.

However, Mr Perkovic’s time in the senior role came to an end in October 2025 when he was dismissed after allegations of corruption involving him were exposed in the media.

Wednesday morning’s raid marks the latest development in the ongoing scrutiny surrounding the construction industry and the former leadership of the CFMEU’s Victorian branch.

The AFP has been contacted for comment and confirmation of the operation, including whether any items were seized from the Keilor property and whether any arrests or charges have been made.
