It’s the news Harry Styles’ fans have been dreading — but expecting.

The former One Direction frontman last night officially announced his concert tour of Australia and New Zealand was being postponed.

“Everyone’s health and safety remains our top priority, which is why I unfortunately have to postpone all 2020 shows in South America, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand until further notice,” Styles posted on his Twitter and Facebook accounts.

“I really hope to play the shows as planned for 2021 but will continue to monitor the situation over the coming weeks and months. I can’t wait to see you all on the road as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

The tour was scheduled to kick-off with dates in Sydney on November 20 before heading to Brisbane and Melbourne and finishing with a show in Perth on December 2.

Up until yesterday, ticket merchant Ticketek insisted the shows would still go ahead — saying tickets were still on sale for the Perth show.

However, the website has now been updated.

“Due to ongoing government restrictions, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our fans, crew and staff, the Harry Styles ‘Love on Tour 2020’ shows in Australia scheduled to take place in November 2020 will be postponed,” the website says.

“The rescheduled dates will be announced in due course. Purchased tickets for the original dates will be valid for the rescheduled dates. Ticketholders are encouraged to hang onto their tickets until the rescheduled dates have been confirmed.

“In the event of a cancellation, exchanges and refunds will be processed according to AU/NZ consumer law.”

The tour would have been Styles’ first since 2018 and follows the December release of Fine Line, his second solo album and second to top the charts here and in the US.

After One Direction split four years ago, Styles has enjoyed more success than his former boyband mates.

His eponymous 2017 debut sold platinum in several markets, while Fine Line made Styles the first UK male artist to top the US charts with his first two albums.

In April, One Direction reunion rumours were sparked after all four members re-followed Zayn Malik on Twitter.

The news comes after Liam Payne sparked speculation of a reunion himself, when he confirmed the band had been “speaking together” ahead of their 10th anniversary last July.
