Taylor Swift has excited fans after a bunch of cute surprises at the Toy Story 5 premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

Swift performed the Pixar classic You’ve Got a Friend in Me, joining composer Randy Newman on stage for a duet that reimagined the song in a stripped-back, piano-led arrangement.

Newman led the performance before Swift joined in on vocals, with the pair trading lines.

She then debuted her new soundtrack single I Knew It, I Knew You, performing it live for the first time at the premiere.

Seated at a piano, Swift delivered a country-leaning rendition of the track, which is inspired by the character Jessie and marks a return to her earlier musical roots.

“OH MY GODDDD,” one fan wrote.

“When Toy Story meets the Swift era, even the toys are begging for an encore,” another said.

“My swiftie heart and Disney heart has been fulfilled tonight. She is so pretty in that dress,” a third wrote.

Taylor Swift gets cast to sign her VHS

Before all of this, there was an iconic red carpet moment involving Tom Hanks, who revealed he had signed Swift’s original Toy Story VHS tape.

Hanks, who voices Woody in the franchise, said he and other cast members added signatures to the tape, which Swift later held on the red carpet.

Taylor Swift Toy Story 5 premiere Easter Eggs

Swift’s premiere look included a few Toy Story universe connections. She wore a doll-like Erdem mini-dress featuring a floral silhouette and has been compared to Bo Peep.

She also wore a horseshoe necklace that has previously been linked to Jessie and was first seen in earlier public appearances before the collaboration announcement, when she was just teasing fans.

I Knew It, I Knew You

Pop superstar Taylor Swift released a country-style pop song as part of the soundtrack for the new Toy Story 5 movie.

The track — called I Knew It, I Knew You — is a departure from the saccharine pop of her most recent album The Life of a Showgirl.

In fact, long-term fans of Swift may feel the single is more at home on older albums Red or Fearless.

Opening with a harmonica and the strum of an acoustic guitar, Swift guides listeners through a nostalgic journey perfect for the latest instalment in the Pixar animated movie franchise.

“I knew you through the daze of the blades of the grass in the summer,” she sings.

“Parachutes for the free fall of being younger / I memorised the sound of your bare footsteps running wild / It’s been a long time / Life has ways of leaving those days behind / But seeing you tonight / I remembered I loved you.”

The song is written from the perspective of Jessie, the cowgirl rag doll who is also protagonist Woody’s love interest.

DJ FISHER cast as Garden Gnome

Australian DJ and producer FISHER landed a surprise role and will voice a character named Garden Gnome in the Australian and New Zealand release of the Disney and Pixar film.

The character is described as “a member of a small but scrappy community of forgotten toys living in an abandoned backyard shed”.

According to a Disney release, the garden gnome is “fiercely protective of teatime and his kid.”“THIS IS ACTUALLY WILD !!! IM THE GARDEN GNOME IN TOY STORY 5,” FISHER wrote on Instagram.

“I HONESTLY JUST CANT WAIT TO WATCH THIS SHOW WITH CHLOE BOBBI AND ANDI.”

The casting news follows the recent release of the film’s first trailer, offering a glimpse at the next chapter in the beloved franchise.

The story continues after the emotional ending of Toy Story 4, where Woody left Bonnie’s toybox to start a new life with Bo Peep.

In the new instalment, Woody crosses paths again with Buzz, Jessie and the rest of the crew as they attempt to win back Bonnie’s attention, which is increasingly consumed by a high-tech tablet known as Lilypad.

Tom Hanks and Tim Allen return to voice Woody and Buzz, alongside returning cast members Joan Cusack as Jessie, Blake Clark as Slinky Dog and Tony Hale as Forky.

Toy Story 5 is set to hit cinemas across Australia and New Zealand on June 18, 2026.
