Rottnest Island is famous for its quokka population, but the popular travel destination is set to welcome an influx of another revered species in black truffles for a culinary event held at The Lodge Wadjemup’s Sunsets Bar & Dining.

On August 15, island hoppers will be invited to a decadent four-course lunch labelled The Truffle Table in a collaboration between three Perth chefs.

Sunsets’ new executive chef Tom Ferne will be opening up his kitchen to Millbrook Winery’s Guy Jefferies, as well as H&C Urban Winery’s Gord Kahle in a celebration of WA’s “Black Gold” Truffle.

For $240 per ticket, guests can delight in a series of bespoke, truffle-infused dishes including octopus croquettes, toasted focaccia with wagyu bresaola, swordfish ballotine, dry-aged duck breast, and a shared cheese course.

Paired with the menu will be a wine curation by former Eagle and H&C Winery & Fiasco Drinks representative Chris Masten, as well as the Millbrook Winery team.

“We’ll have duck breast, croquettes, a nice seasonal puree on the side — pairing well with Pinot Noir,” Chef Ferne said of his dish.

Beverages include a Blanc de Noirs on arrival, through to a 2024 Polperro Estate Pinot Noir to accompany the main course.

Masten said the affair would not just embrace the State’s fine produce, but encourage guests to celebrate “being Western Australian”.

“We’re going to have a great time — eating, drinking and celebrating,” he said.

Those making the trip have the option to extend their stay with an exclusive accommodation discount at The Lodge Wadjemup, including breakfast the next morning, and return ferry transfers.
