32-year-old P-plater charged for allegedly speeding 43km/h above the limit in wet and gusty weather

Police have charged a P-plater who allegedly drove 153km/hour in a 110km/hour zone while stoned, two weeks after the 32-year-old regained her licence. The woman was stopped by Great Southern traffic police on September 5 in Boscabel, north of Kojonup, on Albany Highway. She was allegedly travelling 153km/hour in a 110km/hour speed zone in wet and gusty weather. Police say she tested positive for cannabis during a roadside drug test and a search of her car uncovered cannabis and a smoking implement. She has been charged with speeding, possessing a prohibited drug and possessing drug paraphernalia. The woman had previously been disqualified from driving and had only had her licence back for two weeks when she was charged. Great Southern traffic police officer-in-charge Sgt Derek Grimes said the woman showed a “total disregard to road safety and the safety of others”. “Driving behaviour like this is not only dangerous to the driver but to everyone else using the roads,” he said. “Police and numerous other agencies are working hard to make our roads a safer place, and drivers need to do their bit and ensure compliance to the road rules. “Police will continue to target offences that are high contributors to serious and fatal crashes.” The woman was served a summons and will appear in Katanning Magistrates Court.
