Blistering performance from Griffins 3 in second and third quarter helps them prevail over Cranbrook 1

Grammar Griffins 3 remain on top of the Albany Netball Association A4 ladder after blowing their rivals away last Saturday.

Round seven marked the halfway point of the ANA season and a 17-goal victory over Cranbrook 1 ensured Griffins stayed on top by percentage.

Both teams came out firing in the first quarter, going goal for goal.

Griffins moved the ball down the court quickly, while the Cranbrook defence rebounded strongly.

Cranbrook goal attack Shantell Anderson shot well, as did Griffins’ goal attack Charlotte Freeman.

The second quarter proved decisive for Griffins as they opened up the game, with centre Sophie Shearer feeding the ball well into their attacking circle.

Cranbrook’s goal defence Joanne Lange worked hard to put constant pressure on the Griffins shooters, but Griffins won the second quarter and led 23-13 at half-time.

Griffins dominated the third stanza as they continued to move the ball quickly down the court and apply full court defensive pressure.

Griffins defenders Chloe Thomas and Adelaide Boetel worked hard in the circle making it hard for the Cranbrook shooters.

They opened up a handy 17-goal lead at three-quarter-time.

Despite trailing, Cranbrook came out strongly in the fourth quarter, again going goal for goal with the young Griffins team.

Cranbrook circle defence Joanne Lange and Melinda Gibson read the ball nicely, intercepting and rebounding while goal shooter Tara Jolly worked to gain position in the circle with centre Jessica Determes feeding the ball in well.

Griffins goal defence Angelina De Giamattista intercepted the ball several times as her side prevailed 44-27, to notch their sixth win.

Narrikup 4 remain on the same points as Griffins after a 47-26 win over Kangas 3 while Bullets 4 downed Kangas 4, 44-29.
