O’Meehan on fire as Peaks dent Bulls’ finals aspirations

Mt Barker’s chances of making the Albany and Districts Cricket Association finals took a significant hit on Saturday after a disappointing seven-wicket loss to ladder leaders Manypeaks at Turf North.

The Bulls are more than a game outside the top four with two rounds left to play and face an uphill battle to play finals with matches against reigning premiers Railways and the in-form Collingwood Park to come while the fourth-placed Royals face an easy run home as they meet Park and then the winless Denmark in the final round.

Peaks seamer Myles O’Meehan ripped through the Bulls’ top order, removing the top four batsmen to leave them 4-19.

The Bulls were in massive strife when Warwick Durack dismissed Nathan Crosby for just one as the Bulls crumbled to 5-19.

Luke Hammond and Tim Shephard regained some respect-ability for their side, putting on 50 runs together before Hammond was removed for a well-compiled 31.

The Bulls lost their last three wickets for just 17 runs as they were bowled out for 100.

O’Meehan helped Peaks claim a bonus-point win, finishing with terrific figures of 4-14 from 10 overs while Jeremy Stewart snared 3-7.

Peaks openers Regan Poett and Jack Dawson all but ended the contest with an aggressive 91-run opening stand.

Poett was run out for 35 while Dawson made his fourth half-century.

Seb Stanton was bowled by Kobi Williams but it mattered little as Peaks won in the 30th over to maintain their place at the top of the table.

A brilliant bowling performance from Park has lifted them to third place and strengthened their chances of playing finals after recording a double bonus point win over the Magpies at Turf East.

Denmark were 3-41 before a middle-order collapse as they lost 4-1 at one stage and were bowled out for just 56 with Jesse Spaanderman claiming 3-7.

Park opener Nick Barrow got the small target over and done with quickly belting 36 runs from 38 balls as Park won by nine wickets in the 16th over.
