The Great Southern racing season will come to an end this Sunday as leading Albany trainer Roy Rogers closes in on a major milestone.

Rogers will win his first Great Southern leading trainer award and is closing in on a remarkable half-century of winners.

Already having a career-best season, including winning his first Group race, Rogers has chalked up 46 winners in the Great Southern and has a big team entered for the final meeting on Sunday.

Rogers has 11 runners engaged on the seven-race program as he searches for four victories to end the season on a fitting note.

Big nominations were received, with 123 horses entered.

Rogers sits 20 wins clear of his rival Steve Wolfe, who has dominated the leading trainer award over the past two decades. Senior jockey Chris Parnham has been booked on five of Rogers’ runners.

Impressive three-year-old Island Charm will return to Percy Spencer Racecourse with Parnham aboard.

Island Charm was an impressive winner at Ascot in January before running second in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic behind Gemma’s Son.

Rogers will also saddle up last start winners Count The Sessions and Kristella who go head-to-head as they look to make it three straight wins respectively.

Parnham will be out to claim the Great Southern Jockeys’ Premiership after shooting three wins clear of Kyra Yuill last meeting.

Kazkazi, from the Rogers stable, also secured the Horse of the Year Award after notching his fifth win in the region last week while an exciting finish is set to play out at the final meeting in the Great Southern Leading Apprentice title.

Beaux Banovic-Edwards is one win clear of Madi Derrick while Holly Watson and Jessica Gray are within striking distance.

Young apprentice Jett Stanley will make his first trip to the region after securing a ride on Potent Secret from the Rogers stable along with two other mounts.

Meanwhile former local jockey Mitchell Pateman will have his first starter locally as a trainer with Speeding Comet entered in the open sprint.
