Andrews Way project to expand tourism, residential near Brookfield south of Margaret River

The WA Planning Commission has approved a structure plan which will transform the region south of Brookfield. The plan for Andrews Way, east of Doust Corner, paves the way for a new commercial centre adjacent to the tourism precinct abutting Bussell Highway while also pitching for a medium density housing project. The developers of the nearly 6000sqm land parcel are seeking to retain the existing shed as a structure to house the commercial offering. “This provides potentially a notable building that could be utilised to provide some commercial activity consistent with land to the west,” the planning report said. A local development plan would be drafted and submitted to the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River to firm up the specific details. The Times understands the project would see the block subdivided. Commercial floor space was limited to 400sqm geared towards tourism purposes, with general retail not permitted. The remaining land to the east, which will abut the future Arbour Margaret River subdivision, was recognised as a future development area and would support R10/20 housing permitting a lifestyle village or units. The approval comes amid a significant uptick in activity south of the Margaret River township with the latest stages of Spindrift Estate seeing new homes built and site works preparing for summer land sales at Arbour, formerly Margaret River South and before that known as Weightman Farm.
