A post-punk collaboration between Cowaramup creatives is kicking off at the Beer Farm next month.

Fugazi Gallery owner Callum Fairnie said conversations with Cowaramup-based tattoo proponent Shotgun Adzy led to the new exhibition Art To Choke Hearts which encapsulates the punk rock ethos of “DIY” – do it yourself.

“Collaboration with the local community is the main driver for Fugazi Gallery, with the exhibition being undertaken with Shotgun Events, Beer Farm and other local artists, musicians and businesses,” Fairnie said.

“Building relationships within these groups is the key for the success of the gallery, while providing opportunities for all involved to enhance their own creativity.”

The exhibition culminates in a one-night-only event at the Beer Farm on March 18, with tickets now on sale.

The show brings together several local creatives for a night of music and art.

Featured artists include Karl and Gabe Heussenstamm, Nigel Lulfitz, Vanessa Miller and Emmet Peake, among others.

Bringing the tunes will be hip-hop performer Matty B plus live DJs, and local acts Field Unit, Black Buzzard, Turd! And Dad Bod Dub.

Adzy said the philosophy and approach of the punk genre informed a lot of his work and the connection with Fairnie and their shared interest inspired his involvement.

“The DIY ethos of punk rock is something I’ve shaped my life around,” he said.

“If you want something done, just do it yourself.

“If you want an art exhibition, don’t wait to be invited: book a gallery and get a bunch of your artist mates together for a kick-arse exhibition,” he said.

“Inclusiveness also holds true. That’s why we have included such a broad range of artistic and musical styles in the event and made it all ages.”

The show will also include a silent cinema, food trucks, plus the Beer Farm’s normal offerings.
