After well-received performances in the region, the Arts Margaret River-backed Bystander Project exhibition is now open to the public for free browsing at the Margaret River Hotel.

Innovative Perth performers Mark Storen and Georgia King spent time researching their project with photographer/musician Holly Garvey and fellow muso Tom Garvey, interpreting the lives and experiences of 10 residents.

Performances held in Augusta and Cowaramup last weekend received strong applause for the clever mix of theatre, music and photography.

An interactive exhibition based on those performances is now showing at the hotel until Saturday, November 7.

The stories recorded from the residents were available via headphones along with the photographic exhibits, as well as refreshments from the pub.

Those featured include Jan and Merv Smith, Paul Sofilas, Naomi Godden, Dave Seegar, Helen Collis, Graham Noakes, Wendy Roediger, Ziggy and Starzy Bullock, Michael Earl, and Kenzie Manson.

Alongside the Bystander Project, residents can also check out the Community Story Quilt, which features 11 original panels created by local artisans and school children, as well as aprons featuring a variety of materials.

“We would like to thank all the storytellers, the individuals that contributed to the quilt and aprons and to Margaret River Hotel for providing the exhibition space,” Arts Margaret River general manager Michelle Wright said.

“It was wonderful to see our community celebrated through these performances and to offer everyone a chance to hear our stories through this free exhibition.”

The exhibition is open from 10am to 5pm daily.
