Arts Margaret River has hailed its ever-reliable army of volunteers which will be out in force this weekend for the Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival.

The arts group said its volunteers were integral to the event’s success.

More than 60 volunteers will spring into action providing crucial support to the festival’s showcase of national and international literary talent.

Although Arts Margaret River boasts a pool of more than 150 registered volunteers, logistics meant not all were always available and residents interested in getting involved were encouraged to sign up.

Festival artistic director Sian Baker said resident volunteers were the “heart and soul” of the iconic event.

“They bring their incredible passion, boundless energy and ensure that every single author, guest and audience member has a great festival experience,” she said.

“We could not deliver the festival each year without them and we thank them deeply for their continued enthusiasm and unwavering support.”

Spokesperson Christopher Young said volunteers were the backbone of the local arts group, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

“This truly exceptional group of volunteers works tirelessly to deliver the organisation’s programs,” he said.

“They go to great lengths to support the audience, staff and each other during often stressful events.

“Collectively, their efforts have real impact on the mental wellbeing of many in our community, helping people feel connected and valued.”

The readers and writers festival this year features a who’s who of notable authors such as Andrew O’Hagan and A. C. Grayling, alongside a star-studded Australian line-up that includes veteran broadcaster Wendy Harmer, actor-author William McInnes and best-selling author and TV host Holly Ringland before wrapping up on May 19.
