One of Margaret River’s most prolific live music venues will this weekend host an exclusive sneak peek of a new Aussie film, which fittingly tells the tale of an aspiring musician and features a raft of WA acts.

Directed by Bassendean music producer and director Peter Renzullo, Anticipation follows the turbulent tale of a musician battling social anxiety, family woes and his own self-sabotage.

“It deals with a lot of big topics like mental health issues and family dynamics,” Renzullo said.

“These are things that get in the way of a lot of musicians ... and I think a lot of people can relate to it.” Filming took place at a range of sites across the South West and features local talent.

Renzullo chose Settlers Tavern as the first screening site because of its longstanding reputation as a live music hotspot.

“It’s just a great venue — I’ve performed there and loved it,” he said.

This Saturday, from 8pm, cast members will perform acoustic sets followed by a screening of the first 35 minutes of the film.

Performances by Beautiful Cartel, The Milkmen and Dilip N’ The Davs — all of whom feature in the film — will start from 9.30pm.

Entry is free.
