Calling all creatives to Fringe fest

Next year’s Emergence Creative festival in March will return after a year-long hiatus, and offering a fringe festival for the first time.

Artists and exhibitors interested in getting involved are invited to a workshop next week in Margaret River.

Festival co-director Erin Molloy said attendees should “come with ideas and an open mind”.

“Emergence Creative festival has always showcased local artists, musicians and creatives throughout a number of exciting fringe and satellite events that take place around the festival,” she told the Times.

“Introducing a fringe element for 2020 to run over the weekend was a natural progression that has come about after discussions with other local creatives to give greater space and attention to showcase more of what our local creative community has to offer in line with the Emergence ethos of being collaborative and progressive.”

The information session on Wednesday at Mixtape Creative on Station Road, starting at 5.30pm, will provide insight into plans for the emerging fringe festival, as well as light refreshments.

“The session on the 18th is the first step in bringing anyone with an idea or a desire to get more involved to come and share their thoughts, meet other local creatives and find out about what’s in store for Emergence Creative Festival 2020, and more specifically the Emergence Creative Fringe,” Ms Molloy said.

“An expression of interest will be available after this session to submit concepts and ideas to be a part of the fringe program.”

Community members interested in “exploring connection through creativity” were invited to get involved.

Ms Molloy said the rollcall included artists of all kinds, as well as musicians, painters, sculptors, dancers, singer-songwriters, drama, folk art, writers, photographers, and those in the graphic arts, industrial design, costume and fashion industry, as well as multimedia artists and filmmakers. The festival would also be on the hunt for volunteers and business supporters.

Next year’s festival will run from March 25 to 27.
