Conservation workers plead for return of ‘stolen’ cameras crucial for monitoring endangered species

The owners of a critical piece of local conservation estate are begging for the return of four high-powered cameras used as part of efforts to protect endangered native animals.
The property owners who asked not to be identified to protect the location of their bush estate have hosted researchers and scientists for more than a decade.
The bushland close to Margaret River’s town site is a conservation area where native animals can be safely released back into the wild and then monitored.
The cameras are used to track and measure the survival of the native species, most of which are endangered.
However, in recent months four of the hidden cameras were taken.
The owners said they did not know if the thefts were deliberate, or if the cameras were taken by accident.
But the cameras are crucial for the scientific program. Their disappearance has been reported to Margaret River police.
Anyone with information about the hidden cameras or who wishes to return them should contact police.
