The Cowaramup BMX Club has dropped the gate on their 2023-24 season and welcomed back two national BMX champions.

Club riders Nerida Stokes and Riley Stanlake attended the national BMX titles in Shepparton, Victoria, earlier this month.

Stokes, a mother of three from Dunsborough, won two silver medals and a fourth placing for her age class and for women in the 30-plus division.

Stanlake, who is a registered athlete with Sport Inclusion Australia, grabbed sixth in his finals race.

Club secretary Megan Tiller lauded the pair’s results.

“This is a huge achievement for country riders who have to travel all year to State events from Geraldton to Kalgoorlie to hone their skills,” she said.

Ms Tiller said more than 60 riders were registered for Friday night races and more participants were welcomed.

Ms Tiller said the thriving club boasted riders of all age ranges, from “mini-wheelers” through to adult racers.

She also thanked club volunteers for their work and maintenance on the Cowaramup track.

Nominations opened at the track between 5.30pm and 6.15pm on Fridays.

Cowaramup BMX Club was an inclusive, all abilities club welcoming individuals with varying abilities to come and give BMX a try, Ms Tiller said.
