Cowaramup District Social Club to celebrate 70 years being part of town’s community

A Cowaramup institution is set to bring out the birthday candles this weekend to celebrate a major milestone. The Cowaramup District Social Club will be open its doors to the general public on Saturday afternoon as it marks 70 years of being part of the community. The Memorial Drive venue was officially opened on September 18, 1954 after four years of planning and construction, and was built on land donated by the Earl family. President Billy Pascoe said it was a momentous occasion for the club. “This event is a chance for us to reflect on our accomplishments and celebrate the community spirit that has led us to still exist today, as well as look forward to the future,” he said. “The past 70 years have presented many challenges, but we’re proud to say it’s survived due to the hard work of its members and a commitment to keep it going through generous donations of time and money. “We are and always will be a community club – and we wouldn’t be here today if not for the support of our members and the local community. It’s a relationship we truly appreciate.” The club is going all out to celebrate with food and drinks, live music from Olive Mae and a bouncy castle from 4pm. The Cowaramup Bowls Club, located at the venue, will contribute by hosting free barefoot bowls. Mr Pascoe said there would be historic photos on display —some of which have been hidden away for decades — and limited-edition merchandise will be on sale.
