Vehicle crashes resulting in financial claims for injuries are decreasing in the Capes. The latest Insurance Commission of WA statistics show the wider South West and Great Southern also reflected a downward trend. Augusta-Margaret River Shire topped the list despite reporting fewer accidents than the City of Busselton, with 68 claims valued at $4.8 million. Busselton reported 46 claims worth $1.08m from 120 crashes in the 2020-21 financial year compared to 53 crashes in the Augusta-Margaret River Shire. The South West and Great Southern recorded 1005 crashes overall, down from 1268 last financial year. Insurance Commission secretary Kane Blackman said the claims drew on WA’s Compulsory Third Party Scheme. He said the south of WA had a higher rate of vehicle crashes than other regions in the State.
