A big competition run by the world’s leading makers of dash cams has listed the “Margaret River coastline” in its top 12 finalists for Australia’s best drive. Taking in the iconic Caves Road tourism route which is subject to a State heritage bid due to its history bringing visitors to the region’s iconic caves, the local route was up against some of the country’s most revered drives. Competitors included Victoria’s Great Ocean Road and NSW’s Grand Pacific Drive, with short-listings in almost State and Territory. In WA, the drive from Perth to Ningaloo also scored a mention. Organisers Nextbase said chaos at airports and a squeeze on travel at the tail end of the pandemic was spurring more and more Aussies to take to the road instead. Nextbase ambassador and Supercar driver David Reynolds said summer provided the best chance for people to take in road trips and he urged motorists to vote in the competition, with cool prizes on offer. “After another hectic year, it’s great to hear what people’s plans are for the summer,” he said. “We are lucky to have such a beautiful country that has so many options for road trips.” Dash cam packs, fuel vouchers, and Airbnb vouchers were up for grabs via www.nextbase.com.
