Exclusive deal with Pol Roger Portfolio takes Margaret River’s Voyager Estate deeper into UK wine market

Signature Margaret River winery Voyager Estate has signed an exclusive deal with wine sales monolith Pol Roger Portfolio. The UK-based company last week announced the addition of the Alexandra Burt-owned estate’s premium products to its sales offering of wine and spirit producers in a first for the Margaret River region. Pol Roger Portfolio represents the 170-year-old parent company Champagne Pol Roger in the UK, and is the agency house for a number of like-minded fine wines and spirits. In revealing the news, Pol Roger Portfolio managing director and master of wine James Simpson talked up the Margaret River winery’s celebrated 45-year history and the strength of its offerings sitting alongside premium wines from some of the world’s most celebrated wine regions. “Having visited the estate last year, we are tremendously excited to be bringing this pioneering and historic producer into the fold,” Simpson said. “I think it is fair to say that their commitment to the region is unparalleled. “The dedication and devotion to the fruit is evident in their varietal experimentation, cabernet and chardonnay ambition, quest for organic certification and love for the land,” Simpson said. “They have been making wines in the area for decades now and know the soil better than anyone. “We can’t wait to see what the rest of the UK thinks about these incredible wines.” Voyager owner Ms Burt said the exclusive partnership would take the estate’s wines into the UK market alongside many well-recognised international brands as well as Pol Roger’s own French champagnes. “Wine is a game of patience and persistence, and we are delighted to find a like-minded distribution partner in the UK who embraces its joys and quirks, for the benefit of both the supplier and the customer,” she said. “Alongside our new relationship with the terrific Pol Roger team, we are really looking forward to deepening our ties with the UK trade and consumers to shine a light on the incredible winemaking that is possible in Margaret River.” Voyager celebrated its 45th birthday last year after first vines were planted in 1978, with the winery bought by billionaire mining heir Michael Wright in 1991. His daughter Ms Burt has managed Voyager since 2005 and took over sole ownership in 2018. She is also redeveloping Margaret River’s historic Wallcliffe House into a boutique hotel and restaurant.
