Exhibit on nature’s beauty

Artists have combined forces for a new exhibition opening at Payet Gallery tomorrow.

Local artist Emily Jackson and sculptor Jonathon Thwaites, joined by ceramic artist Dariya Gratte, will unveil new works for residents to enjoy until January 18.

Despite differing backgrounds and media, the artists said their work was inspired by similar themes, celebrating “the beauty of nature”.

Thwaites’ sculptural work was described as “simple, quiet and meditative and reflects the quieter more introspective moments of experience”.

The installations speak to the region’s natural elements and draw on the sculptor’s personal experiences of existence.

Printmaker Emily Jackson’s new pieces are vibrant and dynamic, exploring natural themes guided by external experience.

“Through my artwork, I portray the natural world of WA,” Jackson said.

“My art pays tribute to and celebrates the living world that nurtures my creativity.

“This world sustains my creative impulse, it imbues me with joy, and I feel very much part of it, not separate, but intimately connected,” she said.

Although her landscapes were abstract, each was specific to a time, location and date, Jackson said.

“The aim is to bring the viewer into that moment, place, with all its wonderful nuances, light, plants, animals, landscape — to feel that place, a memory hidden in consciousness,” she said.

The pieces themselves were “arranged in multiple layers from my etchings, lino prints, drawings and paintings, to capture the atmosphere of the visual moment”.

There is a public opening tomorrow at 6.30pm at 611 Boodjidup Road, Margaret River.
