Molloy Island firearm arrest: TRG raid property near Augusta after reports of gunshots

Police and the tactical response group took a man into custody following an incident believed to be on Molloy Island on Wednesday morning. Police headed to the property near Augusta after reports of a firearm being discharged. WA Police reported no one was injured during the incident, but family members were present. It was the second firearms incident in the region during the past three months. On November 17, Margaret River man Francesco Bonanno fired a shotgun in the presence of his elderly parents, with St John Ambulance volunteers forced into a narrow escape. In Wednesday’s incident, a 56-year-old resident was the sole occupant of the property by the time local police contained and cordoned off the scene. The man surrendered to police soon after a TRG negotiator arrived. He was due to face court yesterday, after Times deadline, charged with endangering life, health or safety of a person, being armed in a way to cause fear, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Mr Bonanno faces court again next month.
