Margaret River audiences will have the chance for a first-time offering at the Heart in July. Professional chamber choir, The Giovanni Consort, will deliver their “meditative musical experience” as part of a regional tour on July 6. The interactive performance was billed as an opportunity for mindfulness and stillness in an event where audiences would be “transported to a realm of hushed tones, shimmering vocals and calm relaxation”. Giovanni Consort general manager Kate McNamara said participants sat or lay down while wearing eye masks to provide complete darkness as the group’s singers moved around as part of a continuous stream of “evocative and relaxing music”. “Each audience member enjoys a unique experience, as different voices travel around them, with the darkness serving to further heighten the sensory experience,” she said. “Cloud Nine is accessible to people of all ages – from the very young, to the young at heart – and is a fun and relaxing way to experience high-quality choral singing, both for the first-timers and the well-initiated.” Tickets to two performances were now on sale via the Heart website, with a daytime session for families with school-aged children and a night session open to anyone. The choir will also run a free community choir workshop on July 5. Organisers said the collaborative workshop would help participants develop and understand their own vocal abilities while sharing the Giovanni Consort’s expertise on ensemble singing through learning some of their favourite repertoire. The workshop was suitable for all ages and all abilities, with no musical background needed. Visit margaretriverheart.com.au or call 9780 5294 between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
