Hometown heroes in virtual surf comp

Western Australia has surged to the top of a national “virtual” surf contest on the backs of local competitors. After two rounds held across six weeks, winners in six national divisions were crowned late last month for this year’s Yeti Australian Junior Online Surf Championships. Capes surfers including Sol Pogue-Englert, Olive and Willow Hardy, Zali Hewson, Macklin Flynn, Otis North and Maverick Wilson played leading roles in the contest which saw surfers film and submit their two best rides for the national competition. Surf royalty including Mick Fanning were judges for the contest. Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks commended the winners. “Well done to all our surfers, parents, coaches and supporters for this one,” he said.
