Jukes joins Hawks for new season
Former Swan Districts forward Matthew Jukes leads a string of former West Australian Football League players who will suit up for Augusta-Margaret River this season.
Jukes, 26, played 59 league games for the Swans between 2011 and 2016 before spending last season at Trinity Aquinas Amateur Football Club, where he was best on ground in the club’s 35-point West Australian Amateur Football League grand final win over North Beach.
Jukes was the leading Swan Districts goal kicker in 2015.
Hawks coach Matt Jamieson said he had known Jukes for a few years and was excited to have him in the team.
Augusta-Margaret River will also welcome back forward Jack Hick, who played three league games for East Perth last season.
“He will be a pinch-hitter up forward,” Jamieson said.
“But the best thing about Hicksy is that he can be versatile for us. He can play forward or back and even the midfield.
“I am pretty excited to see what we can do with him up there.”
East Perth’s reserves captain Jobe McShane has also left East Perth and is making the move to Augusta-Margaret River.
“He wants to play with his two younger brothers who played some senior football last year,” Jamieson said.
“Jobe will be a handy inclu-sion.”
East Perth’s Kane Hadden has also returned, but the Hawks are likely to lose former WAFL midfielder Steven Payne, who is trying to get a spot on Swan Districts’ list by getting a clearance from the Royals.
“We will just wait to see what East Perth do with that one,” Jamieson said.
