Just in time for Christmas, the new Local Is More gift cards are now available for punters hoping to do their seasonal shopping and support businesses that live here at the same time. As reported by the Times last month, with the support of the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River, the cards were devised as a way to provide a flexible option to support local businesses while buying cards as gifts which could be used at more than 35 businesses within the region. Chamber president Melissa Rose said the cards were certified carbon neutral and mounted on fully-recycled cardboard hangers. Local group Precious Plastics Margaret River would also take any used cards to recycle them into new products. “We are an active chamber and we’re proud to be part of such a proactive campaign,” Ms Rose said. “Our businesses have had a tough 18 months, and this is a great boost just before Christmas. “This gift card can be spent on everything from restaurant meals to books and art through to getting new tyres for your car. “You don’t have to spend it all at once. “The gift card lasts up to three years and can be spent whenever you like.” Shire sustainable economy officer Saul Cresswell said the card was designed to give shoppers flexibility. “We encourage everyone struggling for last-minute gifts to come and grab a card as a great way to make someone’s Christmas while supporting our local community,” he said. “This way our money stays local, supports local businesses, local jobs and local charities.” Visit the Local Is More website www.localismore.com.au/giftcard where cards could be ordered and loaded with credits for instant use. Cards could also be bought from the Margaret River Artisan Store, Re-Tyre Margaret River, Margaret River Business Hub, and the Shire offices.
