Passionate swimmers who are unable to participate in this year’s Rottnest Channel Swim have another option a little closer to home, with the Margaret River Recreation Centre hosting a virtual swim.

The event will run on February 20, the same day as the Rottnest swim.

Shire of Augusta-Margaret River manager of sport and community recreation Dylan Brown said he was pleased to offer the South West swimming community a more accessible way to participate in the event.

“We have a passionate cohort of swimmers in our region but it is not always possible for everyone to make it to these iconic events,” Mr Brown said.

“That is why we are joining a raft of other pools across Australia and hosting a virtual swim.”

Three event types are available to participate in, with individuals or teams of two or four able to replicate the Rottnest swim with a 20k swim; the novelty event for social swimmers; or swimmers can accrue the 20km at the Margaret River Recreation Centre between now and February 20.

“Whether you can’t get to Rottnest that day, are not able to travel or don’t want to swim in the ocean, you can still join the fun,” Mr Brown said. Register online via the Shire’s website.
