No trash, all treasure in Cowaramup’s kids’ market

Local children have a great opportunity to make some pocket money these school holidays thanks to a new event at Cowaramup Hall. The kids’ market is the brainchild of teenage resident Katie Cunliffe, who told the Times the project was inspired by similar children’s stalls held in Cow Town before the pandemic. Youngsters will be able to set up their own stall selling whatever they like or offering services or activities on Saturday, October 1, from 10am to 1pm. Proceeds from the market are going to Cowaramup Primary School’s Parents and Citizens committee. “If this day does well, I’m hoping to do another kids’ market in the summer holidays,” Ms Cunliffe told the Times. “A few years back, an amazing woman called Freya Cheffers hosted a few kids’ markets and I enjoyed doing them so much and even just walking around to see my friends having stalls, it gave me such a fun feeling. “Sadly Freya moved away, so a few years ago me and mum were thinking of doing another one, but then COVID-19 came and we haven’t been able to.” Younger sister Sarah, 11, said she was making bandannas for dogs which would be for sale, while Mirabelle Proud, 11, was seeing the market as a chance to spruce up and clear out old toys. Katie hoped the young stallholders had a good time, seized the opportunity to make some pocket money, and also enjoy the chance for community togetherness. The market could also be a trigger for youngsters pursuing their own hobbies or craft interests, or simply just finding old toys that could enjoy a new lease of life in another home.
