Police lay charges against man in Rosa Glen after knife threat against good samaritan

A 30-year-old man has been charged in relation to an alleged chilling knife threat outside of Margaret River yesterday morning.

Amid a warning about a man seen hitchhiking to Nannup, Busselton Detectives confirmed they had laid multiple charges against a man taken into custody near Rosa Glen on Monday afternoon.

Detectives would allege the 30-year-old man flagged down a passing motorist on Mowen Road at about 10am after his own car broke down in thick bush on the route to Nannup.

After the 60-year-old driver stopped, it would be alleged the hitchhiker led the good Samaritan into the bush and threatened him with a knife as he tried to steal the man’s car.

The driver of the car sustained minor injuries in the incident and the alleged offender escaped on foot.

The 30-year-old man was later located at his vehicle in bushland and taken into custody.

He was charged with one count of attempted aggravated armed robbery and one count of possessing a prohibited drug.

He was set to appear in Bunbury Magistrate’s Court this afternoon.

The incident sparked alarm in Margaret River during a busy Monday public holiday after police yesterday warned anyone against picking up a hitchhiker linked to a knife incident earlier in the day.
