The popular annual Gracetown Bay Swim was another casualty of coronavirus at the weekend.

With the region in lockdown, crowds were absent as a few residents jokingly undertook the annual competitionwhich guaranteed the three participants a prize.

Gracetown stalwart Jan James said social distancing was front and centre, with police officers from Nannup dropped by to check.

“It was a very, very mini-swim,” she told the Times. “We weren’t allowed to have it, so we did a mini swim and we all got places.”

Husband John James played judge for the day.

“This Easter weekend, things were very different with few of the holiday homes occupied and the beach with less than 30 swimmers scattered across it,” he said.

“Instead of the Easter Saturday swim attracting over 150 participants and 200-odd onlookers, there was a pop-up event with three swimmers and six onlookers.”
