Residents who are keen to get involved in local government are urged to register for this year’s Shire of Augusta-Margaret River council election in October. An information seminar will be held on Tuesday at the Shire council chambers in Margaret River at 5.30pm. No reservations are needed and more information is available on 9780 5200 or via elections. wa.gov.au. Four council positions will be contested this year for roles currently occupied by Shire president Ian Earl, deputy Pauline McLeod, former deputy Julia Meldrum, and fellow first-term councillor Naomi Godden. While all four councillors were eligible to recontest their seats, other community members keen for a tilt on council were encouraged to apply. Nominations for a position on the council close on September 9. This year’s election was slated for October 16, and voters were encouraged to check their WA Electoral Commission enrolment to take part.
