Chilled, laidback vibes from singer-songwriter Colin Dodds are on the cards if you’re looking for a relaxed weekend outing.

The Melbourne artist hit the road earlier this week and will arrive in the South West for a gig at Colonial Brewery tomorrow and Xanadu winery on Sunday.

Showcasing his new album A Matter of Time, Dodds will head north to Coral Bay and Exmouth after Margaret River, bypassing Perth.

Having never ventured to the region before, Dodds said he was looking forward to visiting Margaret River.

“We have spent lots of timein WA but never Margs,” he said.

“I’ve heard so many amazing things, so we are driving from Melbourne and exploring the amazing landscape and culture Australia has to offer on the way.

“WA is unique in Australia for musicians, I feel ... original material is embraced in venues.

“I still do covers, but I was so stoked at the response to touring a completely independent album.”

His acoustic sets are a fusion of country and soft rock, and his lyrics carry emotive messages.

“The title track to the record is a song which reflects the themes in the album of living with people who suffer mental illness — how lonely they can become, not able to be free of it, but not able to control it either,” he said.

Dodds plays at Colonial Brewery tomorrow and at Xanadu Winery on Sunday for the venue’s Fireside event.
