Another City of Bunbury staffer will join the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River early next month with the announcement James Shepherd is the new corporate and community services director.

Shire finance manager Andrew Ross has acted in the role since former director Annie Riordan took up the chief’s job at the Shire of Harvey earlier this year.

Mr Shepherd has held senior positions including Bunbury’s sport and recreation manager where he worked alongside the Shire’s chief executive and ex-Bunbury director Stephanie Addison-Brown.

“James has a contemporary approach to community engagement and consistently demonstrates a passion for building healthy communities in a holistic way,” Ms Addison-Brown said.

“We look forward to James joining us in the near future and feel he will be an asset to both the organisation and the wider community.”

In provided comments, Mr Shepherd said he was excited by the new opportunity.

At Bunbury, his work included acting director roles, overseeing strategic community planning and project management including Bunbury’s waterfront transformation.

He previously worked for corporate public service provider Serco.

Mr Shepherd is also on the board of the South West Academy of Sport and is deputy chairman of Plico Energy’s community board.

The new director starts work on January 13.
