Transport conference to draw Australia’s local government chiefs to Margaret River
Margaret River will host a major national meeting of local government leaders later this year.
A provisional outline for the congress showed it would explore topics including green transport options, road safety, the circular economy and innovations in road construction.
Australian Local Government Association president Linda Scott revealed the news this week, with scores of delegates slated to attend the Margaret River Heart/Nala Bardip Mia on December 3 and 4.
The conference would be a welcome shot in the arm for the Heart’s business centre capabilities.
Cr Scott, who is a former deputy lord mayor of Sydney, said the National Local Roads, Transport and Infrastructure conference would bring together council chiefs from across the country in a similar fashion to its most recent forum held in Adelaide to discuss the housing crisis.
The Times understands Federal MHR Catherine King, the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government, as well as shadow minister for infrastructure, transport and regional development Bridget McKenzie would also attend.
Shire of Augusta-Margaret River president Julia Meldrum said the local government looked forward to its hosting role and welcoming delegates from across the country.
