Upgrades have stations at the ready

A lightning visit to the region earlier this month saw South West MLC Adele Farina open upgraded stations for three local volunteer bushfire brigades.

The Cowaramup, Rosa Brook and Kudardup brigades all received funding through the Department of Fire and Emergency Services to expand their existing stations.

Along with Ms Farina and DFES officials, the new sheds were opened by deputy Shire president Julia Meldrum and veteran volunteer firefighter and councillor Ian Earl.

Cowaramup received improvements to its kitchen, toilets, meeting and training rooms, as well as a new room to service breathing apparatus gear due to a strong growth in membership.

Rosa Brook station was expanded to include three vehicle bays, a designated training room and a respirator servicing room.

With a bigger vehicle area now at their disposal, Rosa Brook fireys will welcome a new urban tanker later this year, allowing all three brigade vehicles to be stored on-site.

Meanwhile, the Kudardup station was funded to extend the shed for a new light tanker and 4.4 dual-cab firefighting truck.

The upgrade also included the fitting out of a new training room.

The new upgrades come as the Shire of Augusta-Margaret River pursues further consultation with brigades about volunteers coming under DFES administration.
