A woman accused of lighting a bushfire in Capel has made her first appearance in court.

Sharna Anne-Marie De Campo appeared in Bunbury Magistrate’s Court on Thursday to face a charge of wilfully lighting a fire likely to cause damage, stemming from an incident on December 27.

Police allege Ms De Campo lit a fire that became out of control in a nature strip along Bussell Highway in the Capel area.

The fire was extinguished by local volunteer fire brigades.

Ms De Campo only spoke to confirm she understood the charge before the matter was adjourned for her to obtain a grant of legal aid.
