Bushfire warning issued for Malmalling residents in Shire of Mundaring

Update 7.41pm: The watch and act alert for parts of the Shire of Mundaring has been downgraded to bushfire advice by DFES. The bushfire is now contained. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Mundaring residents were this afternoon warned about an out-of-control and unpredictable bushfire that could threaten lives and homes.

The bushfire is in the vicinity of Flynn Road and Abercorn Road, with the Department of Fire and Emergency Services warning residents the blaze is moving in a north-westerly direction.

“If you are not prepared or you plan to leave, leave now if the way is clear,” the warning reads.

“If you plan to stay and actively defend, do not rely on mains water pressure as it may be affected.

“You need to have access to an independent water supply, and start patrolling your property to put out spot fires.

Residents are warned to drive carefully, slowly and with headlights on as there is a lot of smoke in the area.

Up to 80 parks and wildlife officers and local bushfire brigade firefighters are attending.

Fire bombers have been sent to assist firefighters on the ground.

The blaze has already burnt through 150 hectares of land.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.
