The Capes is abuzz with excitement over new beachside bar, Lagoon in Yallingup.

Dunsborough locals Ben and Megan Jacob bought the premises, formerly known as Shaana Cafe, and have started renovations to transform it into a two-storey bar and restaurant.

The husband and wife team opened the kiosk for takeaway food and drinks on Friday and said they were “exhilarated” when the opportunity to purchase the space became a reality.

Mr Jacob is an award-winning chef who learned his craft from Gordon Ramsay while living in London and working under the famously fiery celebrity chef.

For the past few years Mr Jacob has run the kitchen at Wise Winery. He described his latest venture as a “dream come true”.

“We’ve got a kiosk operating from Friday to Monday at the moment with a breakfast and lunch menu and also good coffee trade after teaming up with the guys from Margaret River Roasting company, juice menu and vegan ice cream,” he said.

“I think it’s really important for us to support as many local businesses as possible so our wine list will be all local boutique wineries.

“Our idea is to give more back to the community here and make these premises into something more exciting for locals.”

The interior of the restaurant and bar will be painted white with a relaxed and beachy vibe and an elite food offering.

“Upstairs we have a space with a balcony that overlooks the ocean — we foresee that to be the environment that will have that sunset cocktail vibe,” Mr Jacob said.

“It’s been a lifelong dream to own my place where I can offer the food I’m really passionate about and put my fingerprint on everything and I’m fortunate I have a wife who has an exceptional business mind.

“We’ve always had the idea that we can be a power couple that can get involved with a venue and push it forward creatively.”

The couple plan to open the restaurant and upstairs cocktail bar, with its view of Yallingup’s main break, in early December.
