Budding South West film directors have a chance to learn from Australian actor, director and producer Myles Pollard in an online masterclass.

The course aims to prepare and inspire potential entrants in the Cinesnaps Short Film Competition, which is open to students aged between 15 and 18 from the South West region.

“Hopefully students will walk away from the workshop inspired and confident to continue on with their filmmaking journeys,” Pollard said.

Pollard is a veteran of Australian film, starring in and producing the movie Drift, which was filmed in Western Australia.

The workshop will teach students about the process of creating films, including writing scripts, creating shot lists, rehearsing actors, blocking, and shooting scenes.

Access to the workshop is available for schools that pre-book.

Cape Naturaliste College provided the equipment and the venue for Pollard to record the online masterclass. School principal Mark Gillett said the school had been involved with the Cinesnaps program since its inception and that the program was a great opportunity for stu-dents.

“The new Cinesnaps Masterclass is an innovative approach for students to connect with Myles to gain inspiration and support in their filmmaking journey,” he said. “I am pleased the program has found a way to further engage students via online platforms to pursue their passion.”

Online short film competition entries are now open and close on June 30.
