The community of Busselton will soon immerse itself in the festive season as St Mary’s Anglican Church again holds its Christmas services.

Standing strong for 172 years, St Mary’s welcomes all members of the public to sing and celebrate Jesus Christ on December 24 and 25.

The Rev. Rose Guok said the best part of both services was seeing the joyfulness and celebration within families.

“The Christmas Eve service is very much a family get-together and the parents get a lot out of watching the nativity and singing carols as the Christmas story is read out,” she said.

St Mary’s held its first Christmas service in 1845 before its consecration in 1848. The history of the church began when John Bussell arrived in Busselton in 1834 seeking an established church in the small community.

Church warden Rosemary Cussons said the services were very important this year to support people amid the pandemic.

“We kick off with our first Christmas service on Christmas Eve which is very family-oriented ... and our second one on Christmas morning,” she said. “We welcome everyone to come and celebrate with us.”

Both services will be held in the family centre this year. For information, call 9754 3775.
