Old Tennis Club site set to turn into foreshore cafe after Busselton Council vote

The City of Busselton is set to enter into a new 30-year lease with the State government to allow the old Tennis Club building to become a foreshore cafe.

The City will sublease the site to the owners of Shelter Microbrewery who will operate under a new company Left Coast Chocolate Pty Ltd and trade as Little Otto’s Big Choc Shop.

This will be subject to there being no objections raised through the statutory advertising process.

The City will lease the site from the Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage for $1000 plus GST per year and will charge the lessee more than $162,600 over the first five years.

All lease income will go towards the Jetty Maintenance Reserve to help with the upkeep of the Busselton Jetty.

Mayor Phill Cronin said the lease would be good for the community.

“It is exciting to see Council’s commitment to progressing to the next stage to maximise opportunities for this building,” he said.

“It is located in a prime location on the Busselton Foreshore and will enable a whole new offering to enhance the mix of attractions in the precinct.

“Officers have done a great job working with State agencies to negotiate the ability for the City to bring in a commercial income to support the maintenance for the Busselton Jetty, which is another really positive outcome.”

The decision was made at Wednesday’s council meeting and passed unanimously.
