Paddy Dee emerges from Capes with new EP

A new artist has emerged in the Capes this year, drawing on the COVID-19 pandemic to release his first EP. Patrick Doyle, 17, also known as Paddy Dee, has written and recorded four songs for Out Of Milk — an EP paying homage to the extraordinary situations that arise out of lockdown. Now completing Year 12 at Georgiana Molloy Anglican School, the young musician said he was inspired to create music from watching “things go crazy” when the pandemic first hit in 2020. “Out of Milk is a reference to running out of products like milk and toilet paper, basically everything crazy that happens when we go into lockdown,” Doyle, pictured, said. “What I saw going on really inspired me to create this music.” With a mixture of pop, rock and indie genres, the four songs — Take a Break, Out of Milk, Asphyxiation, and Upchuck — also aim to reflect how social media affects teenagers. “During the lockdown I saw the many ways different people were reacting to what was going on,” he said. “Some people were quite upset while others chose to spend the time with family.” “What I saw going on really inspired me to create this music.” Taking place entirely in the confines of his bedroom, Paddy Dee said the creative process had been positive and the best part was getting feedback from friends and family. “A lot of them didn’t know I was interested in music or making music,” he said. “It was pretty cool to hear people were enjoying listening. It meant a lot to me.” Paddy Dee said he was looking forward to pursuing his musical passion by undertaking a degree in Musical Education at WAPA next year. “I want to test and challenge myself.
