The RAC rescue helicopter was sent to Rabbit Hill Beach in Yallingup on Tuesday to assist an injured surfer.

The local surfer is believed to have suffered a serious back injury after wiping out in six foot swell at around 1pm.

The double overhead swell combining with westerly winds caused dangerous conditions throughout Tuesday.

A spokesperson for St John Ambulance said the surfer would be conveyed to Royal Perth Hospital.
