Authorities have issued a precautionary shark warning for all of WA’s coastline due to a fault with the Statewide shark notification system stemming from Smiths Beach, south of Yallingup.

The satellite-linked receiver has a fault and is not in service, resulting in a partial outage for the notification system.

Surf Life Saving WA, WA Police and local government agencies rely on the system to stay informed of shark activity.

People are urged to adhere to any beach enclosures and keep informed of sighting information by checking the SharkSmart website and Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed.

The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development is working to restore the system to full operational status.
