South West AFL stars Reuben Ginbey and Jye Amiss dealing with injuries after practice game

Two of the South West’s AFL young guns are dealing with injury concerns after a practice game at the weekend. Dunsborough product Reuben Ginbey has entered the league’s concussion protocols, while Busselton’s Jye Amiss is managing a minor ankle issue. Ginbey was taken from the field in the hands of West Coast trainers and did not return after clashing heads with Fremantle’s Luke Jackson in the second period of the game at Mineral Resources Park on Saturday night. An enforced 12-day break means the 19-year-old will miss the Eagles’ preseason hit-out against Adelaide on Saturday, but a successful recovery would have him available for selection for their season opener against Port Adelaide on March 17. After resting on Tuesday, the hard-nosed midfielder walked laps at training on Wednesday. The 19-year-old’s rookie season was ended due to hamstring surgery last July but he has been one of the club’s most impressive trainers over the offseason, with coach Adam Simpson saying he had “really stood out”. “He did so much coming back from his hamstring last year, I don’t think he had a break,” he said last month. “We just have to be careful with Reubs because he goes so hard.” Amiss finished the evening on the sidelines after a three-goal third period for the Dockers, but Fremantle head of football Joe Brierty told SEN there were no major concerns over the third-year forward. “Jye just had a little jarring with his ankle, but he’s pulled up well,” he said. The 20-year-old was on light duties at training on Tuesday. On the back of an excellent 41-goal campaign last season, Amiss shapes as a critical figure for the Dockers’ hopes of rising back up the ladder after a disappointing 2023.
