VideoPremier announces lighter than expected restrictions for Perth and Peel after no new virus cases

From tomorrow, Perth and Peel residents will enjoy new freedoms, including being able to walk outside without a mask and have a barbie with up to 30 mates.

Here’s exactly how life will change when the clock strikes midnight.

Masks

Today: You must wear a mask at all times, except for when you’re at home, doing vigorous exercise or in a private vehicle with people from your own household.

Tomorrow: The same mask rules apply, except when undergoing vigorous exercise. But, if you can physically distance outside then you no longer need to wear a mask.

Exercise

Today: Indoor fitness classes are not allowed. Outdoor fitness classes can only take place with a maximum of 20 people with 4sqm physical distancing.

Tomorrow: Indoor fitness classes are back! You will also be able to play sport indoors and take part in group classes (so no excuse for being a couch potato!) You won’t need to wear a mask if you’re undertaking “vigorous” exercise, even if it’s indoors.

Restaurants and bars

Today: Seated service only and a limit of 20 people in one venue. Restaurants can still open for takeaway orders.

Tomorrow: Venues can open to up to 150 people, so long as patrons stick to the 2sqm rule. Seated service will no longer be required and you’ll be able to stand up at the bar and mingle once again.

Travel

Today: You can leave Perth or Peel but you must wear a mask and you can’t visit a restaurant, bar or any other hospitality venue. You also can’t go to any public gatherings (so, you can’t hop down south for a wedding either). You can’t fly to or from Queensland or New South Wales without an exemption and you’ll need to quarantine in Victoria.

Tomorrow: Anyone from Perth and Peel can visit a hospitality, entertainment and recreation venue outside of the area but need to wear a mask, in line with the rules in place back home. Victorian travellers will still need to quarantine but, all being well, those restrictions will ease on Friday when people will be able to travel without needing to isolate.

Shopping

Today: All businesses can open but they must stick to the 4sqm rule and shoppers must wear masks.

Tomorrow: The 2sqm rule will be in place so more people can shop at once.

Gatherings, including weddings and funerals

Today: You can’t have any more than 10 visitors to your home and no more than 20 people at a wedding or a funeral.

Tomorrow: You can have up to 30 people around for a barbecue and up to 150 people at a wedding or funeral.

Sport

Today: Professional and community sport can go ahead, but community sport cannot take place indoors.

Tomorrow: Indoor sport is back. Optus Stadium and RAC Arena will be able to open at 50 per cent capacity. It’s expected they will be able to operate at full capacity again from July 12.
