Bellevue man charged with assault over Mitchell Freeway road rage incident in Greenwood

A 32-year-old man has been charged over an alleged violent road rage incident in Perth’s north on Friday that left a 73-year-old bloodied and with a split lip.

Police today charged a man from Bellevue with aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm after he handed himself in to Warwick Police this morning.

The victim — who did not want to be identified — suffered a split to his lip and cheek and now has several loosened teeth after allegedly being punched without warning through the window of his car.

“Suddenly I was hit on the side of the face and knocked almost into the other seat,” the victim told 7NEWS yesterday.

“(I was in) shock more than anything — pain set in a little bit later.”

The West Australian understands the victim had slowed to a low speed in the left lane heading south on the Mitchell Freeway approaching the Warwick Road exit.

The driver of the vehicle behind the victim had reportedly used his horn several times when both men stopped and exited their vehicles.

The victim had returned to his vehicle when he was allegedly punched in the face through the open car window.

The alleged attacker then drove off while the pensioner travelled to Warwick Police police station after the incident before attending hospital to treat his injuries.

The man will appear in the Joondalup Magistrates Court on Wednesday, August 26.
