Five Hakea prison officers charged over 2018 prisoner assault

Five prison officers from Hakea Prison have been charged over an assault on a prisoner after an investigation by the Corruption and Crime Commission and WA Police.

Police say one of the officers, a 36-year-old East Fremantle man, assaulted a 34-year-old prisoner at the prison on 12 November 2018. Then, along with four other prison officers, allegedly made false entries in official records to conceal his involvement in the assault.

A 27-year-old Eglington woman, 29-year-old Caversham man, 44-year-old Kewdale man and a 55-year-old Canning Vale woman have each been charged with falsification of records by public officer and will face Armadale Magistrates Court on 8 December.

The 36-year-old man has been charged with assault occasioning bodily harm and falsification of records by public officer and will also appear in the Armadale Magistrates Court on 8 December.
