A Goldfields man has been charged with reckless driving after a dramatic crash along Kalgoorlie's main street on Saturday morning.

The 24-year-old South Kalgoorlie man’s red Ford Falcon utility has been impounded for at least 28 days after the ordeal which happened on Hannan Street at about 7.40am.

Police say the man was travelling east when he lost control at the Lane Street roundabout, causing the car to veer over the median strip and knock down a light pole before coming to rest on the other side of the road.

Perth breakfast host for 6PR Steve Mills witnessed the crash and told his listeners about the experience this morning.

"He must have been going a 100 and something kph through a roundabout," he alleged.

"He's lost control, he's coming straight for me, he's hit the curb, he's then veered across the road, sideswiped, hit the lamp post.

"The lamp post came flying towards me and then the bloke's car tipped over and then he's finished up in the flower bed on the opposite side (of the road) near the ABC studio."

Mr Mills said he and two other people nearby stopped to help the driver, who he claimed was "slumped" in his seat when they arrived.

Mr Mills said he and two other people nearby stopped to help the driver, who he claimed was "slumped" in his seat when they arrived.

"I'm going 'you got to get out, mate'. The bloke got out of the car and he was just shaking his head. It shook me up so much," he said.

The man escaped with minor injuries and was taken to Kalgoorlie Hospital for treatment.

A WA Police spokeswoman said the man was charged by summons and is expected to appear in court at a later date.
