Nollamara: Out-of-control car smashes into house narrowly missing sleeping woman in early-morning ‘explosion’
A Perth woman woke Friday morning to a “loud bang” and bricks smashing through her bedroom window after an out-of-control car blasted through her front fence.
The small car, driven by a young woman on her way to work, ended up just metres from where Judith Andrews was sleeping in her home at the corner of Woodchester Road and Flinders Street in Nollamara about 4am.
“After the squeal of the brakes and explosion, there was this long hissing sound and I thought, ‘this is close, it sounds like the car is right outside’,” Ms Andrews said.
When she went outside, she discovered the car had smashed through the fence and into the side of the house, pushing her bedroom wall inwards.
The impact left a mess of stones, bricks and shattered glass, but fortunately no one was injured.
“At first I thought it had just hit the fence but then I got up and came out and saw that it had tried to go through the bedroom wall, but luckily it didn’t,” Ms Andrews said.
Another occupant of the home, Allison Luthi, described the terrifying sound of the crash as being like an explosion.
“You’re in a deep sleep and then hear an explosion,” she said.
“It was pretty scary at the time.”
The driver was outside the car once the women got outside, and appeared shaken by what had happened.
“She was out, two cars had stopped and people were assisting her, but she was more worried about if anyone was hurt on the inside of the house,” she said.
Flinders Street is notorious for near misses and accidents, Ms Andrews, who has lived in the house for 27 years, said.
“It’s the first time a car has come through the fence, but I’ve had cars come around the corner, lose control and end up on the verge,” she said.
WA Police confirmed no injuries had been reported.
